Winter Blues – Stress Management

It’s dark. It’s cold. We’re tired…. We’re quitting smoking and reducing our alcohol consumption and trying not to just curl up in bed and hibernate for several months. How do we get through the winter blues?!?!

Two words… Self Care!

What can we do specifically?

  1. Get into a routine! What ever activities help you reduce stress, do them regularly! Meditate. Journal. Do yoga. Read. Go outside and get some exercise! Whatever you choose to do, do it often.
  2. Keep moving! If you can safely be active, do it! Bundle up and do some outdoor winter activities, or grab your yoga mat or your dumbbells and get moving in the privacy (and warmth!) of your home!
  3. Be nice to yourself! It’s a hard time of year, so give yourself some grace. Teach your inner voice to be positive about yourself. Know that it is ok to not always be ok. Use mantras or just focus on what you’re thankful for and love yourself through these winter months.
  4. Spend time with friends! You don’t have to go through this alone! Even the introverts can invite people over every now and again. Laugh. Have fun. Be silly! Whatever you guys do, just do it! Know that you are supported and you are supporting others as well!
